Track and Field: Davis, Imagbe Lead Cajuns To Second-Place Finish At McNeese Indoor

LAKE CHARLES Devin Davis set a personal-best in claiming the men's long jump while Stacy Imagbe set a season-best in claiming the women's long jump as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns earned six first-place performances at the McNeese State Indoor Invitational that finished late Friday at the McNeese Recreation Complex.

Louisiana earned a second-place finish in the meet as it scored 126.5 points in the men's five-team event with the women scoring 125 points in the six-team women's competition.

"We had a great day in the long jump as Devin Davis and Stacy Imagbe really showed up there," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "I was pleasantly surprised by some of the track events, especially the men's 800-meters and women's 5,000-meters. I feel we are progressing nicely as we head towards the (Sun Belt) indoor championship."

Davis, one of three Ragin' Cajuns to score in the event, claimed the men's long jump title after recording a mark of 25 feet, 2 inches. Micah Thomas (22-11 ) and Ricky Theyard (21-10 ) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Imagbe led the Ragin' Cajuns to a 1-4 finish in the women's long jump after posting a mark of 19-7 . Tia Mitchell (19-2) finished second with Jasmin Fusilier (18-11 ) third and Taylor Walker (18-2 ) fourth.

Walker added one of the Ragin' Cajuns six first-place finishes after claiming the women's triple jump (37-2 ). In the women's 5,000-meter run, Ashley Irwin crossed the finish line in a meet record 17:42.49 and was followed by Claire Hodges (18:28.22).

Louisiana added first-place finishes from Theyard in the men's triple jump (48-8) and Scott Brewster in the men's 800-meters (1:58.27).

Kenneth Nassar (50-2 ) and Richard Delphin (46-5 ) finished second and sixth in the men's shot put with Matt Wilson (14-11) and Nicholas Laurent (14-5 ) finishing second and third in the men's pole vault.

The Ragin' Cajuns earned a 1-2-3 finish in the men's 800-meters with Brewster, Logan LaGarde (1:58.32) and Christian Bergeron (1:59.56) all recording personal bests. In the men's 400-meters, Austin Ley finished second overall (54.51) with Zachary Meche (55.21) finishing third.

In the women's pole vault, Emily Gale earned a second-place finish after crossing the bar at 11-10 . Meredith Driskell placed third overall at 11-5 with Amanda Gale finishing sixth at 10-11.

Newcomer Raven Cameron earned a third-place finish in the women's weight throw (53-10 ) with Jana Jones fourth (53-0 ) and Amie Leitko sixth (49-11 ). In the women's shot put, Jones led the Ragin' Cajuns with a third-place finish (45-3 ), Tamela Young was fifth (42-5 ) and DaNay Rowland sixth (39-7 ).

Louisiana will return to action Feb. 13-14 when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Samford Invitational and Multi at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
