Track and Field: Three School Records Fall As Ragin' Cajuns Compete At LSU Alumni Gold

BATON ROUGE Kelci Lyons, Alena Hrusoci and Hanoj Carter each established new school records to highlight the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Lyons and Ashley Irwin each posted victories in their respective events as Lyons claimed the women's 800-meters and Irwin won the women's 5,000-meter run. Jasmin Fusilier earned second-place in the women's triple jump for the Ragin' Cajuns with Justin Victor finishing second overall in the men's hammer throw.

"We had some outstanding performances today," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "I can't say enough about how hard Kelci, Alena and Hanoj have worked and it showed for them today. We had so many personal and season-bests today. I feel we are peaking at the right time."

Lyons, who clocked the fastest time (2:10.34) in the Sun Belt Conference last week at the South Alabama Invitational, crossed the finish line in 2:09.57 and finished nearly four seconds faster than Arizona's Katelin Warren (2:13.26). Danielle Castaldi added a fifth-place finish in the 800-meters for Louisiana, recording a time of 2:14.54

Hrusoci, a freshman, clocked a school-record time of 1:00.08 in the women's 400-meter hurdles to finish third overall for the Ragin' Cajuns with Carter eclipsing a school-record that stood for 30 years after he posted a time of 10.20 in the 100-meter dash.

Carter, who is rated third in the Sun Belt Conference in the 100-meters, added a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash after clocking a time of 20.92. Victor posted a throw of 216-5 in the hammer throw to finish behind Wisconsin's Michael Lihrman.

Sean Bezdek earned a third-place finish for Louisiana in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:40.57 with freshman Beau Robinson finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:34.91). Morgan Cormier posted a time of 52.60 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish sixth overall, with Ricky Theyard (47-7) finishing sixth in the triple jump, Micah Thomas seventh in the long jump (22-7 ) and William LeBlanc seventh in the high jump (6-6 ).

Irwin claimed the 5,000-meter run for Louisiana after she posted a time of 18:26.10 with Courtney Musgrove (18:29.42) and Anna Katherine Devitt (18:33.62) finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Fusilier was one of two Ragin' Cajuns to finish in the top six in the triple jump after her mark of 40-6 was one inch behind Texas State's Lauren Nwegbo. Taylor Walker added a sixth-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns after she posted a mark of 38-0.

Madalyn Trisler finished fourth overall in the women's high jump (5-7 ) for Louisiana with Tia Mitchell (19-8) and Stacy Imagbe (19-3 ) placing fourth and seventh overall in the long jump.

Louisiana will return to action on Saturday when it competes in the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational in Natchitoches.
