Track and Field: Ragin' Cajuns To Open Indoor Season At LSU Invitational

Comments

LAFAYETTE The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will officially open its 2015 indoor season on Friday when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU Invitational at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.

Field events begin at 2:30 p.m. with running events set for 3:30. Live statistics, courtesy of LSU, will be available on RaginCajuns.com. The Ragin' Cajuns will be joined in the meet by host LSU, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas-Tyler and Hinds (Miss.) CC.

Louisiana, which will compete in five events prior to the Sun Belt Conference Championships next month in Birmingham, Ala., look to build off a 2014 campaign that saw the women's team finish fourth and the men sixth.

"Coming off a (holiday) break, I just want to see where the kids are at. It's really just a test to see who's prepared for the season," fourth-year coach Lon Badeaux said. "This is the most talented team on both the men's and women's side that we've had since I've been here. I expect them to do well. You have some juniors and seniors that are ready to go."

Reigning Sun Belt Conference champion and 2014 indoor All-American Justin Victor returns for the Ragin' Cajuns after claiming the SBC weight throw title and finishing ninth overall at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Ricky Theyard (men's triple jump), Devin Davis (men's long jump), Tia Mitchell (women's long jump) and Meredith Driskell (women's pole vault) also return for the Ragin' Cajuns after each earned all-conference honors at the Sun Belt championships.

Key returnees for the women's team includes Lindsey Harmon (high jump), Madalyn Trisler (high jump), Emily Gale (pole vault), Amanda Gale (pole vault), Jana Jones (throws), Stacy Imagbe (sprints), Danielle Castaldi (800-meters), Joya Tardieff (hurdles) and Kaitlyn Moreau (multi). Expected to make a key contribution for the Ragin' Cajuns in 2015 is Tulane transfer Kelci Lyons (800-meters).

On the men's side, Badeaux will rely on Matthew Rice (800-meters), Josh McDaniel (pole vault), Dionte Heath (high jump), Omari Davis (sprints), Morgan Cormier (hurdles) and Lamont Abraham (relays).
