Cross Country: Cajuns Finish Tied For Third; Eighth Overall At Rice Invitational

HOUSTON Courtney Musgrove, freshman Hailey Hesterman and Anna Devitt each posted top-15 performances in the women's 3.8K race with Beau Robinson earning a 16th-place finish in the men's 5.5K event to pace the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team at the 40th annual Rice Invitational on Friday at the Rice Intramural Fields.

Competing in its second meet of the season, Louisiana finished in a third-place tie with Houston after scoring 109 points. The Ragin' Cajuns finished behind host Rice (52) and Incarnate Word (99) while finishing ahead of Lamar (115), ranked No. 8 in the USTFCCA South Central Region Preseason Poll. UT Rio Grande Valley (124) was sixth in the 11-team field followed by Texas State (146), Houston Baptist (179), Texas A&M International (219), Prairie View (308) and Texas Southern (330).

Musgrove posted a time of 17:10.07 to finish 11th overall among 93 runners with Hesterman finishing one spot back for the Ragin' Cajuns in 12th place with a time of 17:11.53. Devitt finished 15th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns after posting a time of 17:13.79 while Claire Hodges (18:20.28) was 38th, Lindsay LaGarde (18:44.13) 46th, Kelci Lyons (18:47.35) 47th and Danielle Castaldi (19:01.89) 57th.

Robinson paced the Ragin' Cajuns on the men's side after posting a time of 19:12.62 to finish 16th overall. Bryce Robinson (19:59.78) and Sean Bezdek (20:00.39) finished 45th and 46th respectively for the Ragin' Cajuns with Trey Bonin (20:10.19) finishing 50th, Jacob Chicola (20:26.87) 65th, Christian Bergeron (20:44.20) 72nd, Dylan Heck (20:52.95) 78th and Cole Stafford (21:27.5) 92nd.

Louisiana, ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCA South Central Region Preseason Poll, finished eighth overall in the 13-team field on the men's side scoring 189 points. Lamar, ranked No. 4 in the South Central Region, claimed top honors on the men's side with 41 points followed by No. 10 Houston (71), No. 8 McNeese State (93), Texas State (108), No. 13 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (129), Incarnate Word (143) and No. 9 Rice (151).

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Sept. 26 when they head back to the Lone Star State to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
