Comments

BATON ROUGE Fifteen members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team were recognized after posting some of the top marks among state athletes as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Track and Field College Team was announced this weekend by the organization.

The Ragin' Cajuns had four student-athletes William LeBlanc (men's high jump), Ashley Irwin (women's 10,000 meters), Claire Hodges (women's 3,000-meter steeplechase) and Madalyn Trisler (women's high jump) earn first-team All-Louisiana honors after posting the top mark in their respective events.

Irwin, one of two Ragin' Cajuns to claim All-Louisiana honors in the 10,000-meters, posted the fastest time in the event among state athletes when she posted a time of 36 minutes, 36.11 seconds at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May. Teammate Courtney Musgrove earned third-place honors in the event after she recorded a time of 38:55.06 at the SBC Championships.

Hodges posted the top time in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase after she finished in 11:06.37 at the SBC Championships. Trisler, who qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary last month, posted the top mark among state athletes in the women's high jump after she cleared the bar at 5-9 at the Northwestern State Invitational.

In the women's heptathlon, Jasmin Fusilier earned second-team All-Louisiana honors after scoring 5,137 points at the SBC Championships. Teammate Kelci Lyons earned third-team honors in the women's 800-meters after posting a time of 2:09.57 at the LSU Alumni Gold meet with Stacy Imagbe earning third-team honors in the women's long jump after a mark of 20-6 at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays.

On the men's side, LeBlanc and Dionte Heath posted the top two marks in the high jump for the Ragin' Cajuns as LeBlanc cleared the bar at 6-11 at the Texas Relays with Heath clearing 6-9 at the Northwestern State Invitational. Justin Victor earned second-team All-Louisiana notice in the hammer throw after posting a mark of 219-8 at the McNeese State Relays.

Hanoj Carter posted the third-best time among state sprinters in both the men's 100-meters (10.20) and 200-meters (20.66) while running the second leg of the Ragin' Cajuns 4x100-meter relay team that posted the second-fastest time (39.89) among state schools. Carter, a transfer from Northwestern State, was joined on the 4x100-meter relay team by freshman Tyler Hughes, senior Devin Davis and junior Jeryl Brazil.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles, junior Morgan Cormier posted the third-fastest time in the state after posting a time of 14.42 seconds at the Louisiana Classics. Freshman Beau Robinson earned third-team All-Louisiana honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after clocking a time of 9:26.97 at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 400 meter champion Vernon Norwood of LSU led the special award winners on the Louisiana Sports Writers Track and Field College Team announced this weekend by the organization.
