Cross Country: Ragin' Cajuns Finish Fifth In Men's, Women's Races At SBC Championships

BOONE, N.C. Beau Robinson became the first Louisiana runner to record four top-10 finishes at the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships in school history while Courtney Musgrove earned a top-10 as the duo led the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a fifth-place finish on Saturday at the State Farm Fields-Kennedy Trails.

Louisiana scored 113 points in the men's 8K race to finish fifth overall while the Ragin' Cajuns scored 131 points in the women's 5K race to earn a fifth-place performance their best showing since finishing fourth in 2014 and the lowest team score since 2003 (130 points).

Host Appalachian State claimed the men's title with 70 points to edge UT Arlington (73), Texas State (75), South Alabama (113) and Louisiana (113). Texas State claimed the women's title with 53 points with App State (80), South Alabama (91), Arkansas State (100) and Louisiana (131) rounding out the top five.

Robinson, who posted his third consecutive top-3 finish after finishing ninth as a freshman in 2014, crossed the finish line in 25:07.3 to lead Louisiana in the race. Jonathan Kimutai joined Robinson in earning men's All-SBC honors after finishing 15th overall (25:50.4) with Stanley Limoh finishing 25th (26:19.2), Dylan Heck 31st (26:34.7) and Logan LaGarde 39th (27:03.9).

Freshman Andre Bellard finished 46th overall for Louisiana after covering the course in 27:17.0 with George Femmer finishing 57th (28:09.8).

Musgrove, who earned third-team All-SBC honors in the 2016 meet, clocked a time of 18:01.0 on the 5K course to finish ninth overall and earn second-team All-SBC honors. Lindsay LaGarde finished 20th overall for Louisiana after posting a time of 18:20.3 with Claire Hodges (18:27.1) finishing 23rd, Alexa Breaux 39th (18:58.7) and freshman Ally McCulley 40th (18:59.5).

Freshman Teresa Bruning posted a time of 19:20.8 to finish 51st for Louisiana with Courtney Broussard finishing 69th overall (20:17.7).

Louisiana will return to action on Nov. 10 when it competes at the NCAA South Central Regional in College Station, Texas.
