Track and Field: Three First-Place Finishes Pace Cajuns At Season-Opening Cowboy Relays

LAKE CHARLES Kyle Baudoin and Alexa Johnson each posted first-place finishes in the pole vault while the women's 4x800-meter relay team earned a first-place finish to pace the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the Cowboy Relays, held on Saturday at the McNeese Track and Field Complex.

Richard Delphin, Courtney Musgrove, Frankie Griffin, Taylor Walker and Mackenzie Marze all posted second-place finishes as Louisiana opened its outdoor season in the 14-team event.

Baudoin claimed the men's pole vault title for Louisiana, clearing the bar at 15-9, with teammate Matt Wilson finishing fifth overall at 14-5 . Johnson highlighted a 1-2-3 finish for the Ragin' Cajuns in the women's pole vault, posting a mark of 11-7 with Kimberly Rushford finishing second (11-3 ) and Bailey Broussard third (10-11 ).

Louisiana claimed the women's 4x800-meter relay as Courtney Broussard, Teresa Bruning, Hailey Hesterman and Lindsay LaGarde posted a time of 9:26.73.

Musgrove led a trio of Ragin' Cajuns runners to top-five finishes in the women's 1,500-meter run after finishing second overall in 4:46.85. Claire Hodges finished fourth overall for Louisiana (4:53.71) with freshman Ally McCulley finishing fifth (4:56.29).

Marze paced four Cajuns to top-eight performances in the women's javelin after her throw of 141-0 earned her a second-place finish. Claire Meyers finished fourth overall for Louisiana (135-2 ) with Madison Meche sixth (130-4) and Juliette Smith eighth (124-4).

Walker, making her 2018 outdoor debut in the triple jump, posted a mark of 38-9 to finish second for Louisiana with Lindsay Darby placing sixth (35-5). Griffin, competing in the high jump, cleared the bar at 5-3 to earn second-place honors for the Ragin' Cajuns.

Delphin added a pair of top-four finishes for Louisiana, finishing second overall in the hammer throw (173-4 ) and fourth in the discus (154-5 ). Sean Bouzigard earned a third-place finish in the javelin for Louisiana (186-4 ) with the men's 4x800-meter team of George Femmer, Stanley Limoh, Jonathan Kimutai and Logan LaGarde clocking a time of 7:47.69 to finish second overall.

Louisiana will return to action beginning on Friday (March 16) when it hosts the annual two-day Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
