Track and Field: Cajuns Set To Open Action At Sun Belt Conference ChampionshipsPublished by
Live Results SAN MARCOS, Texas The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will return to competition on Friday when it begins action at the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at Bobcat Track and Field Stadium. Action begins Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 10,000-meter run followed by the men's 10K at 9:15. Action in opening events of the men's decathlon, women's heptathlon will start at 10 a.m. along with the women's hammer throw. Competition in the men's hammer throw will begin at 12:30 p.m. with action in the men's and women's javelin and women's pole vault following. Wes Gonzales will enter the first day of competition with the top performance in the decathlon (7,033) with Kaitlyn Moreau (4,741 points) and Alex Harrell (4,394) ranked fourth and sixth in the heptathlon. Brittany Blunt enters the three-day event ranked No. 6 in the women's hammer throw with freshman Addie Shafer and Amber Sharp ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, in the women's javelin. In the women's pole vault, freshman Emily Gale and sophomore Meredith Driskell are ranked seventh and eighth among Sun Belt Conference athletes. Action resumes on Saturday with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon along with field event finals and running preliminaries.
