First-Day Results

SAN MARCOS, Texas Junior Harald Bust claimed victories in a pair of events to claim the first-day lead in the men's decathlon while finished the opening day second overall in the women's heptathlon to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday at Bobcat Track Stadium.

Second-day action resumes on Saturday with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon along with field event finals and running preliminaries. The Sun Belt Conference Championships conclude on Sunday with additional finals in field events with finals in running events beginning with the women's 4x100-meter relay at 5 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns earned 10 points in women's competition to finish in seventh place after the first day of the three-day event with the men scoring two points behind a seventh-place finish from Cody Nickel in the javelin.

Bust, competing in the decathlon for the first time this season, claimed wins in the high jump (6-5) and long jump (23-6) while adding a third-place finish in the shot put (43-0.50) to score 3,821 points on the day and hold a 25-point lead over South Alabama's Garrett Schumacher.

Wes Gonzales, the school-record holder in the decathlon, was fifth overall with 3,630 points that was paced by an overall win in the 400-meter dash (49.51). Christian Umphries finished in ninth place in the event after scoring 3,360 points in his decathlon debut.

Moreau, behind a second-place finish in the shot put (42-2), scored 3,226 points on the same track she claimed the decathlon in late March. Moreau added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.28) and a fourth-place performance in the 200-meters (25.20) to finish 36 points behind first-day leader Noelle Jones of South Alabama.

Alex Harrell, who earned a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon at the Bobcat Invitational, finished in sixth place after the first day that was highlighted by a second-place finish in the 200-meters (24.71).

Freshman Addie Shafer turned in the Ragin' Cajuns best finish of the opening day as she finished fifth overall in the javelin (136-4). In the women's pole vault, freshman Emily Gale finished sixth overall (11-9.25) with Meredith Driskell placing eighth (11-9.25). Brittany Blunt earned a seventh-place finish in the women's hammer throw after posting a mark of 166-5.
