Cross Country: Cross Country Heads To Arkansas To Compete In South Central Region

Comments

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team will look to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships when it competes at the NCAA South Central Region Championships on Friday at Agri Park.

The women's 6K race will begin at noon with the men's 10K event scheduled for 1 p.m. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

On the men's side, Louisiana enters the meet ranked No. 13 in the South Central Region in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Regional Cross Country Rankings. Leading the Ragin' Cajuns is Matthew Rice, who has six top-15 finishes on the season and earned all-conference honors at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Nov. 2.

Beau Robinson, a second-team All-Sun Belt performer, and twin brother Bryce Robinson have each excelled in their inaugural season with the Ragin' Cajuns. Also slated to compete for Louisiana is Logan Pearce, Dylan Heck and freshman Logan LaGarde.

"Matt Rice has run very well for us this year and has the ability to shine," Louisiana assistant coach Kelly LaMaison said. "A few of the guys are running their first 10K race, but we anticipate solid performances."

Juniors Anna Katherine Devitt and Ashley Irwin will compete for the Ragin' Cajuns after the duo ran at the top of the lineup during the season. Devitt, who has six top-10 finishes in as many events during the season, earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors finishing ninth overall.

Irwin, who posted five top-10 finishes on the season, claimed first-place honors in her previous 6K event - the South Alabama Azalea City Classic in September.

"Ashley thrives on the extra distance, so I'm anxious to see what she does running a 6K," LaMaison said. "Anna Katherine always brings it and that's what we expect her to do on Friday. It should be great racing weather, with little wind, but cold. Everyone is running in the same conditions it's all about competing."
