Comments

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Matthew Rice crossed the finish line with a career-best time in the men's 10K race to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country team to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday at Agri Park.

Rice finished 47th overall with a time of 31 minutes, 11.8 seconds to eclipse his previous 10K record (33:28.3) set at the 2012 South Central Regionals. The Ragin' Cajuns had two runners compete in the women's 6K race with Anna Katherine Devitt finishing 40th (21:36.2) and Ashley Irwin 64th (22:08.9).

"(Assistant coach) Kelly LaMaison has done a great job with the kids this season and we have really taken a step forward with the development of this program," Louisiana head coach Lon Badeaux said. "The top three guys and both of our women ran times today that were easily in the top 10 in the fastest times in school history."

The Ragin' Cajuns, who finished 17th overall at the 2012 South Central Regional, scored 402 points to finish 15th among 23 teams competing on the men's side. Arkansas, ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region and 24th nationally, claimed top honors with 42 points followed by Texas (51), Lamar (106), North Texas (134) and Stephen F. Austin (164).

"It was an unbelievable day for us," LaMaison said. "All of our guys recorded personal-bests and we couldn't be more proud of their effort. A.K. (Anna Katherine Devitt) and Ashley had a phenomenal day for us, finishing in the top half of 142 runners."

UT Arlington (166), Texas A&M (177), McNeese State (298), Central Arkansas (300) and Rice (310) rounded out the top 10 with Houston (312), Baylor (360), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (376), Tulane (389) and Louisiana (402).

Freshman Beau Robinson completed the course for the Ragin' Cajuns in 31:25.4 to finish 58th with Bryce Robinson (86th, 31:59.2), Logan LaGarde (106th, 32:22.3), Logan Pearce (109th, 32:26.60) and Dylan Heck (150th, 35:35.2) following.
