Cross Country: Born To Run: Limoh Set To Compete At NCAA Championships

Comments

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. It's been an historic first year for Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns cross country runner Stanley Limoh. And the good news for head coach Lon Badeaux and Ragin' Cajuns fans is that he still has three more years to add more accolades to an already impressive resume.

When Limoh steps on the starting line at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, he'll be the first Ragin' Cajun to compete in the national championship since 1971 when then-USL made its only team appearance in school history.

Action in the men's 10,000-meter race begins at 11 a.m. CST with video and live results available at RaginCajuns.com.

"I am very excited to represent our University at the NCAA Cross Country Championships," Limoh said. "I've always believed that if you do your best and achieve the best, you will be the best."

In his first season of running cross country, Limoh proved to be one of the final pieces in helping Louisiana to a second-place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships and a No. 9-ranking in the USTFCCCA South Central Region Poll. The SBC Freshman of the Year earned three first-place finishes in his inaugural season for the Ragin' Cajuns and finished 13th overall at the prestigious Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival, hosted by perennial power Arkansas.

With an already solid lineup in place on the men's side, led by all-conference performers Beau Robinson and Matt Rice, Limoh added another piece to an already potent contingent. The freshman earned his first collegiate victory in claiming the Rice Invitational in September and followed that up with a first-place finish at LSU.

He claimed his third individual title of the season with a first-place finish at the Choctaw Open before his second-place finish at the SBC Championships helped the Ragin' Cajuns to their best finish since 2004 when they claimed the league title.

"We are very excited and extremely proud of all that Stanley has achieved this year," Badeaux said. "It's been since 1971 that a Ragin' Cajun has participated in the Cross Country national championships, and for him to qualify in his first-ever season running cross country is truly remarkable."
