Track and Field: Rice Eclipses Personal-Best, Leads Ragin' Cajuns In Split MeetsPublished by
LAFAYETTE Senior Matt Rice eclipsed his personal, and Sun Belt Conference-best in the men's 1,500-meter run, finishing ninth overall in 3:47.91 and leading the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday in Torrance, Calif. Hanoj Carter recorded the fourth-fastest time (21.11) among Sun Belt Conference runners in the men's 200-meter dash for Louisiana while Beau Robinson recorded the third-best time (31:49.39) in school history in the men's 10,000-meter run. The meet was one of three this weekend for Louisiana, with pole vaulters Kyle Baudoin (16-3 ) finishing seventh and Matt Wilson (14-4) tenth at the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile, Ala. The select group of the Ragin' Cajuns squad will wrap up their trip to the West Coast on Saturday at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., while women's pole vaulters Bailey Daigle, Kimberly Rushford and Alexa Johnson will compete at the USA Invitational. Rice, who ran a personal-best 3:49.80 last week at the Florida Relays, finished ninth overall in the event and posted the third-fastest time in school history. Carter, who was making his 2017 outdoor debut in the 200 meters, finished ninth overall for Louisiana in the event. Ricky Theyard finished fourth overall in the men's triple jump, recording a mark of 50-1 with Taylor Walker finishing 13th overall (38-4 ) in the women's triple jump. Freshman Damon Guidry earned 11th-place honors in the men's high jump after clearing the bar at 6-6 .
