JONESBORO, Ark.
After a successful start to its 2014 indoor season, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will venture north to compete in the A-State Invitational that begins Friday at Arkansas State University's Convocation Center.

Field events begin at 10 a.m. with running events slated for 11. The Ragin' Cajuns will be joined in the non-scoring meet by host Arkansas State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, UALR, and McNeese State.

The Ragin' Cajuns opened their indoor season last Friday at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational, finishing third overall in both the men's and women's competition while recording six first-place performances and two school records.

Justin Victor, who claimed Sun Belt Male Field Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday, officially recorded a school-record mark of 64 feet, 5.25 inches in the weight throw to lead all athletes in the Sun Belt Conference while ranking No. 21 nationally. Freshman Ricky Theyard turned in the top mark (49-3) in the triple jump among SBC individuals with Kenneth Nassar (shot put, 52-7.25) and Devin Davis (long jump, 23-9) ranking among the top three.

Matt Rice, ranked No. 4 in the 800-meter dash, posted a time of 1 minute, 56.86 seconds in his return to the lineup with Morgan Cormier (8.34 seconds) leading the Ragin' Cajuns in the 60-meter hurdles.

Pole vaulter Meredith Driskell is one of the leaders on a young Ragin' Cajuns women's team. The sophomore set a school-record (12-4.75) last week to claim top honors in the season-opener and is ranked third in the SBC. Tia Mitchell, ranked No. 2 in the league in the long jump, earned a victory after posting a mark of 18-8.5 in the event with the high jump tandem of Lindsey Harmon and Alex Harrell finishing 1-2 overall.

Sprinter Morgan Breaux turned in a pair of solid performances for the Ragin' Cajuns, earning a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.59 seconds) and a fourth-place effort in the 200-meters (25.16). Danielle Castaldi (2:17.04) keyed the Ragin' Cajuns in the 800-meter dash with Anna Katherine Devitt (5:19.19) and freshman Claire Hodges (5:19.94) leading the team in the 1-mile run.
