EUGENE, Ore. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field standouts Albert Fournette and Michael Vani will each compete for All-America honors when the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships open on Wednesday at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

Live results will be available on the track and field schedule page at www.RaginCajuns.com. Coverage of the first two days of the four-day meet will be on ESPN3 beginning at 5:55 p.m. CDT.

"We are really excited for Albert and Mike to compete in Eugene this week in one of the most competitive events in the world," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "I really like Albert's chances to be in the top eight and finish as an All-American. He's had a great career at Louisiana and has been one of the best shot putters in the nation all season.

"Mike has a bit more of a challenge, competing against some of the best in the country, and it will take his best ever to sneak into the top eight. But it's the national championship and not everyone gets the chance to win it in their career. It's who is best on that particular day so we welcome the challenge."

Vani, who will compete in the pole vault on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CDT, earned his first trip to the NCAA nationals after finishing in a first-place tie with Ole Miss' Sam Kendricks on May 31 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. The senior, who is ranked No. 48 nationally and earned seven first-place finishes in the spring, cleared the bar with a personal-best 17 feet, 5.5 inches to eclipse his previous best (17-1.5) set at the USA Invitational in April.

Fournette, who will compete in the shot put on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. CDT, will make his second trip the national meet where he finished 13th overall and earned second-team All-America honors at the 2012 meet in Des Moines, Iowa. Fournette, who enters the meet as the No. 6-ranked thrower in the country, finished sixth overall at the NCAA East Preliminary Round after recording a throw of 65-3.5.

The New Orleans native set a personal-best and school-record in the shot put last month when he posted a throw of 65-11 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in San Marcos, Texas.
