Track and Field: Fusilier Takes Early Lead In Heptathlon At USA InvitationalPublished by
GULF SHORES, Ala. - Jasmin Fusilier earned a pair of second-place performances and claimed the lead in the women's heptathlon to pace the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team after the first day of the South Alabma Invitational on Thursday at Micky Miller Blackwell Stadium. Fusilier scored a total of 3,027 points for Louisiana to post a 13-point lead over Ashley Cope, who was competing unattached, after the first four events. Fusilier earned second-place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.50) and 200-meter dash (25.92) while finishing third in the high jump (5-4 ) and fifth in the shot put (32-10 ). Alexandra Harrell finished in 10th place after the first four events, despite a first-place finish in both the 200-meters (25.55) and the high jump (5-5 ). The final three events (long jump, javelin, 800-meters) will conclude on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Action in the javelin, triple jump, men's pole vault and women's shot put will begin Friday at 4 p.m. On Saturday, field events (hammer throw, high jump, long jump, discus) are slated to start at 10 a.m. with running events set to begin at 11:30. Louisiana is one of eight NCAA Division I teams competing in the weekend event, joining Sun Belt Conference members South Alabama, Arkansas State and Troy.
