Cross Country: Burger Leads @RaginCajunsTRK At SBC XC Championships

MOBILE, Ala. Freshman Hannes Burger posted a time of 25 minutes, 8.20 seconds to finish eighth overall and lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Saturday at the Brookley Field Golf Course.

Burger, who earned second-team All-SBC honors, paced the Ragin' Cajuns in his first conference meet while helping lead Louisiana to a sixth-place finish in the team standings. Louisiana, ranked No. 13 in the USTFCCCA South Central Region poll, scored 131 points to finish ahead of host South Alabama (146), Arkansas State (187), ULM (244) and Little Rock (283).

Jonathan Kimutai finished 21st overall for Louisiana, crossing the finish line of the 8K race in 26:00.79, with Stanley Limoh (26:16.73) finishing 27th, Shadrack Kipngetich 35th (26:29.76) and Key Alfred (26:54.87) 40th.

George Femmer added a 47th-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns after completing the race in 27:12.40 with Andre Bellard finishing 56th (27:44.85).

Ally McCulley led the Louisiana women's team, placing 42nd overall on the 5K course. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 19:18.32 as the Ragin' Cajuns finished 11th in the meet with 294 points. Teresa Bruning (19:26.80) finished 48th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns with Hailey Hesterman (19:57.63), Alexa Breaux (22:05.37), Alivia Johnson (22:34.29) and Kaya Seaman (24:08.00) following.

UTA claimed the men's title as it placed four runners in the top 20 and scored 66 points. Appalachian State finished second with 76 points with Troy (90), Coastal Carolina (92) and Texas State (104) rounding out the top five.

App State claimed the women's crown after placing all five runners in the top 15 and scoring 45 points. Texas State placed all five runners in the top 20 and finished one point behind with 46. Arkansas State (86), Georgia State (143) and South Alabama (166) rounded out the top five.

Louisiana will return to action on Friday, Nov. 9, when it travels to College Station, Texas to compete at the NCAA South Central Regionals at the Dale Watts Course.
