Cross Country: Ragin' Cajuns Place Ninth At Cowboy Stampede

LAKE CHARLES Key Alfred and freshman Emoni Coleman each paced their respective teams as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams earned a ninth-place finish at the Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede on Saturday at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.

Missing four of its nine runners on the women's side due to injury, Louisiana finished with 255 points in the 5K race with Coleman leading the way. The freshman crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 53.6 seconds to finish 36th overall with Ally McCulley (20:42.2), Alexa Breaux (21:50.9), Meredith Hebert (23:02.5) and Alivia Johnson (23:17.3) following.

Alfred covered the men's 4-mile race in 22:21.9 to finish 54th for the Ragin' Cajuns with Conner Meche covering the course in 22:42.9.

Stanley Limoh (22:43.1) and the freshman tandem of Samuel Avants (23:12.2) and Chandler Burns (23:54.4) completed the scoring for the Ragin' Cajuns with Rashid Reese posting a personal-best on the 4-mile course (23:56.7), Riley Plunkett finishing in 24:55.3 and Solomon Brent 25:35.1.

Houston swept both the men's and women's titles, scoring 46 points in the men's 12-team field and 44 points in the women's 14-team field.

Louisiana will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., to compete at the Little Rock Open.
